I.M.C.F Review
Firstly, the running time of the film should be cut down to at least 150mins from the original 170mins.
Then, Direction has been fine except for a few unwanted scenes. Screenplay is not so good, especially when the pace of the film is considered. Suriya gave his best, as usual. Samantha has been very bubbly and glamorous! The delicate love story has been handled very well. Raju's and Imran's gang members, along with Imran, did a decent job. Photography had been the best, right from first frame handling the slow motion and action sequences extraordinarily!
The film starts off on a very slow and a bit irritating note. Though the film gains pace slowly, it gets back to a slower tone soon. Linguswamy has previously made such slow running flicks, but this one being a strict revenge drama, lacks the entertainment quotient! Brahmanandam is present hardly for 5mins and even then he fails to entertain us. Other than that and a few minor flaws, this film is good!
Raju (Suriya) and Chandu (Vidyut) are best friends like, Two souls - One life! They rule the under world of Mumbai. One day, they encounter under world leader Imran (Manoj Bajpai) who rules Mumbai from Dubai. Imran teases Chandu and so, Raju kidnaps Imran giving Chandu a chance to tease him back. That hurts the ego of Imran. So, he plans and kills Chandu, when Raju was away from town. The rest of the film is, how Raju unravels the mystery of Chandu's death and takes revenge on all those who have plotted against him.
Basically, Vidyut did a positive role, but given to his fame you might have some suspicion on him. That feel irritates. A few minor connections like, Why does Raju bully a business-man by name 'JK' in the beginning of the film; Why does Imran kill a guy in his entrance; How did Raju-Chandu and other gang members meet?; Where has the commissioner disappeared, after being so furious in the beginning of the film? and many more... were left unsolved.
I.M.C.F Rating : 82/100
Direction : 7 : Should have handled the above mentioned connections and the few unwanted scenes better.
Production Values : 9 : A rich film indeed. Good to see so many fresh faces on screen!
Story/Plot : 7 : An entertainment less Revenge drama with a mild love story.
Cast Performances : 9 : It's a Suriya's film. If not others, he himself will tear the screen with his performance! But none disappoint.
Music : 8 : BGM is too good. Music for songs is just fine. Maybe because its a dubbed version, the lyrics have killed it!
Cinematography : 10 : Loved the Photography, right from first frame. Many scenes have come out very well, if you observe closely.
Editing/Screenplay : 8 : As said, handling the few valid flaws and unwanted scenes would have been a lot better!
Choreography/Action Sequences : 8 : Choreography is just plain and simple, but the Action sequences are too good!
Dialogues : 8 : Not many are present, but the few present were good. One while Chandu is dying is too good!
Awe Moment(s) : 8 : The pre-interval scene along with climax encounter are good! Raju's feel when Chandu dies is good too!
